This system is simple, affordable and surprisingly versatile! I have it hooked up to an LG Scarlett TV with audio input from a high-def FreeSat box, an AppleTV and a Wii.

Out of the box the soundbar plugs-and-plays perfectly – just hook it up to your TV with the supplied HDMI cable and it’s ready to go. The sound is clear and resonates well (even in my high-ceilinged room). The sub-woofer is very powerful, almost overpowering when playing music, so reducing the bass level is definately the first thing you’ll be doing! (Another small point to note: When the wireless sub woofer is placed further away than 4-5 metres there is an audible delay between the two speakers leading to a ‘double-bass’ sound. The instruction manual recommends the bass unit to be close to the main unit, and so do I! (It’s fine when the units are close together)

Once you’ve fiddled with the levels you can get a great room-filling sound. The system is definately better suited to playing movies than pure music. Plugging in an AppleTV via the optical input allows for great sounding movies and music – though you may prefer to use different sound settings for each use.

Although the DVD player is technically not the best on the market, with the HiDef upscaling the images look just fine and I have absolutely no complaints. Playback is at very good quality and the sound – although not equal to a 5 speaker set-up – definately adds a huge amount of atmosphere and depth. Casino Royale looked and sounded better than ever! I had a smile on my face!

I would however like to see two optical audio inputs – as I imagine most people will have both a blu-ray player and some form of games console or satellite box.
(In fact – three would be perfect – one more for the AppleTV). – I had to buy a seperate TOSlink splitter to combine the audio from two sources – not a pretty solution.

Added surprises include the ability to integrate the remote with your existing set-up – so one remote can turn everything on, change volume and channel.

I haven’t yet tested the bluetooth or USB capability so can’t comment on those functions.

Overall – very impressed.

Whether investing a large amount of your savings or a small part of your budget on your home speaker theater, your speaker placement will play a big role in the sound quality and sonic performance in your home speaker theater room.

With all the makes and models of home speaker systems on the market today finding one that will suit your needs can be a real chore. But there is an easy way to get the home speaker system you want at the best possible price.

Having the right speakers for your home theater room – correct size, proper sound output, and fitting aesthetics – brings the entire room together in one cohesive piece. When looking at home speaker, consider the size of the room, the appropriate speaker size, the number that you are going to be using, and what is within your price range for sound equipment. You may also want to consider more aesthetic items like speaker placement and the overall look of your home theater design.

When selecting home speaker the sound should be the crucial determining feature. Nevertheless, there are many different varieties of speaker systems, but if finances allow, THX certified speakers are highly recommended because of their low distortion and clear tone. Budget restraints aside, however, as home speaker that come with a THX certificate are usually top of the range, the final deciding factor should be your preference after hearing the quality of sound for yourself.

Next, check out the sound of your speakers. Many home speaker sound better when aimed directly at the listener, and located at ear height. This is not always the case, however. If the treble or voices sound a little too sharp, then perhaps the speakers will sound better aimed straight out instead of at the listener. Listen to the bass. Is it boomy, or lacking? If your speakers sound a little boomy, like they are in a barrel, bass response can probably be improved by moving your speakers farther from a wall or corner.

If your speakers are too light in bass, they may sound better closer to a wall. Remember not to block any bass ports. If the home speaker is rear ported it needs a little space out from the wall and clearance on the sides of the speaker to perform properly. One little tweak you might try: some home speakers sound better with the speaker grills off. Try removing them and see if they sound better. In many cases there will be no noticeable difference, but it costs nothing to try.

There is no one perfect placement for any given home speaker. No two rooms acoustics will be the same, all home speaker will have various sonic characteristics, and no two ears will hear any given sound identically. This doesn’t mean you will never achieve the best sound quality from your home audio system. All it means is take the advice given and modify it when you actually install your home theater speakers to accommodate your specific needs.
